King Edward's Study

"Oh, she will not like it because nothing Ashley does is wrong as far as Elizabeth is concerned. Elizabeth does not much care for the Lady Margaret Douglas and you know how close the Lady Margaret and I are, my dear Majesty."the Lady Mary remarked.

"Oh, she will be uspset because she loves the woman so much. I know for that is how much I loved the Lady Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury." the Lady Mary said.

"No, I do wish to see the Lady Elizabeth happy at all times, just like I like to see you happy, brother." the Lady Mary remearked.

Before I answered I coughed into my hand and had to sit down.

"Mary, can I asked did you get the chance to read my book?

"No, I have not read the book yet." the Lady Mary said unto her brother, Edward.

"I do not think niether Edward Seymour nor Thomas are a good influence upon you but that does not mean that I do not like them. I just do not like their underhanded ways of doing things, like for example when our late Father, the King died, they kept that secret for three days. Why did they need to keep it secret." the Lady Mary stated.

"Yes, they are talking about Mary, Queen of Scots. Politically it would be a grand match but I think that she is too young for you, Edward. She is only five.I can see both Edward and Thomas Seymour wanting the match."

I paused for a moment as I tried to picture the name she had just mentioned but I could not recall it.

"Do you know what this Mary, Queen of Scots is like? I do not believe that I have met her before. I wonder if father was intrigued by this potential match.

"It was Father, the late King who wanted this match for you, Edward for he wanted to conqueror in Scotland and he did conqueror in Scotland. He destroyed it. It was sad what he did to the Scots. They are our neighbours and we should be friendly with them." the Lady Mary commented.

I looked at Mary and I could see that she was very fond of the Scots.

"The Scots, they are our northern neighbours, however, I am told that they tried to invade England too whilst father was away in France and is it true that your mother was able to defeat them at Flodden Field?

The Lady Mary thought fondly of her mother, good Queen Catherine. "Yes, my mother, Catherine of Aragon did defeat the Scots at Flodden so, so bad that they could not get another army together for a number of years. Even though we need to be friends with the Scots, they can be rascals. They do not know what our grandfather, Henry the Seventh was trying to do, Edward, when he made the match between Queen Margaret of Scots and King James the Fourth of Scots which was to bring our countries closer together. WE should be one island instead of two countries, constantly at war with one another. I like not war. Which is something the Scots do nlot understand." The Lady Mary did not want Edward to think that she favoured the Scots when she did not. She believed in unity and peace and quiet.

'Oh, yes, Edward, I should like to wed. It is time already. I am not young any more and Elizabeth should wed as well. I am sure you shalt find us good matches.'

A Scottish match, thought the Lady Mary. Now who in Scotland was good enough for the hand of Mary Tudor, the heir presumptive of England. She would certainly like to know but she wished for Edward not to hate her. "Who are you thinking of, Your Majesty?"

I looked at Mary and she seem intrigued by this potential match.

"The nobles have come up with many suggestions and one of the main options they suggest is marriage with the brother of the Queen of Scots potentially or a Scottish Duke. You do not seem to like the idea Mary?

"Mary, Queen of Scots only has illegitmate half brothers. I leave that up to you. I would wed where you would me wed." the Lady Mary said, graciously.

"Henry the Second of France is trying to wed that Dauphin to Mary, Queen of Scots. Queen Mary is already in France,She has been there since a few months ago. They sent her to France." the Lady Mary remarked, graciously.

'i promise that I will read it, Edward' the Lady Mary said, 'May I go now to read it?' She would not read it but she could pretend to read it.
