King Edward's Study

I had received word that my sister Mary wished to speak to me about a certain matter so I had called for her to come and see me in my study at Greenwich.

The Lady Mary came to the door of King Edward, her brother and knocked. And as she awaited entrance to his Study, she was nervous.

I heard a knock at my study door and I instructed my servant to open it and I saw my sister Mary enter.

"Dear sister, please do come in. I was informed that you wished to speak with me.

"Yes, dearest Majesty. I am worried about you being surrounded by men like Seymour and Herbert and Northampton and Paget and Paulet." the Lady Mary stated.

"Of coarse, I will remain at Court with Your Majesty. They only thing I can tell you about these men is not to trust them. they are ambitious and greedy and grasping. Have you seen Elizabeth?" the Lady Mary said.

"yes, Edward, I knew your mother, Queen Jane very well and she was a fine woman and so proud that she had you. You should have seeen how happy she was on that day and so was our
father, King Henry

.Your mother, Queen Jane, was a gooda nd kindly woman who only wanted the best for everyone. She was very goood." the Lady Mary said.

"Yes, you would have loved your mother." the Lady Mary remarked.

"No, I have not looked at it. I think you should leave things as they are until you reach your years of majority, my dear Majesty. Tell me, how has your health been." the Lady Mary said.

"That is good. I am glad the your health is a lot better." the Lady Mary said.

"No, no, I am not upset. It is just that the journey to see you from my home in Hundson was long and tiring. I just need rest." the Lady Mary said.

"I will do that. I will rest some. Thank you, Your Majesty." the Lady Mary replied unto her brother, the King.

"Yes, I am pleased that you invited Elizabeth to court. She is a good lass, although misguided." the Lady Mary remarked.

"I have never approved Kat Ashley. I think she spoils Elizabeth. She does not have her own children so when Elizabeth was young, she sort of adopted her. I believe that the Ashley woman behaves as if Elizabeth is hers and that is not healthy for Elizabeth but Elizabeth will not hear of any one else replacing her.."

"Yes, but do not do it because it will cause Elizabeth a great deal of distress. Just speak to her about your concerns regarding Ashley. Tell her that both you and i do not think Ashley is behaving properly towards Elizabeth and that she is spoiling Elizabeth and that you will not stand for it. Give her like a warning or something like that, Your Majesty." the Lady Mary remarked.

I listened to Mary as she spoke to me and I now realised how concerned she actually was.

"Mary, I shall speak to Elizabeth in private when she arrives at court. I hope that she will not be angered by the warning though.
