Throne Room

I had received word that Queen Elizabeth wished to see me as she had important work for me. I was told that she was in the throne room and putting on my best robe, I went at once to the throne room and greeted the Queen by bowing before her.

"Your Majesty wished to see me?

Nicholas,

This has to do with Mary Queen of Scots. Have you heard the news spreading everywhere about her?

Queen Elizabeth

Please do forgive me but I am unaware of exactly what has been going on for I have only recently returned to the Court following illness in my family. Is everything alright?

Nicholas

"She is claiming her rights to my England. She has no claims. She is not in the direct line to England. I need your help to put a stop to this at once."

I listened as Elizabeth mentioned what was going on and on the inside I was furious.

"That is completely unacceptable your majesty and I will do all that I can to put things right. Is there anything in particular that you wish for me to do?

"I shall send you to Scotland after I have word with my councilors to see if it be wise to send a letter to her from me. I have to tread lightly for she be of a different religion from me and I have no desire to start an unnecessary war."

"You should make preparations to leave for Scotland at once but see me once more before you leave."

"Something has come up and we need to put the trip to Scotland on delay."

"You may go through with your arrangements at once if you please."

That is all we can do at this time.

"We should like for your daughter to come to my Court. Perhaps as my Lady In Waiting?"

I had returned to England following my visit to France to speak with Queen Mary. I bowed my head to Elizabeth and then I spoke.

"Your Majesty, I have news from France. I had a meeting with Queen Mary and I have to say she is not what I expected. I asked her about the recent wearing of the coat of arms of England. She said that it was no declaration of any kind and that she has no intention of declaring herself Queen of England or offending you in any way. This was her answer, however I still do not think it exactly clarifies as to why she chose to wear them in the first place. You are the rightful Queen of England. Not sure if you heard, but during that joust, King Henry of France was fatally wounded and now King Francis is there and Mary is his consort.

"What say your daughter to my request for her to be my Lady In Waiting?" I say first than I turn to more pressing matters, "This is a huge matters for France. I do feel pity for the passing King's wife. She is in a much changed position now. Is the new king as weakly as the rumors I have been hearing?"

I listened to Queen Elizabeth as she spoke.

"Your Majesty, with everything that has been happening and my visit to France, I have not yet had time to ask her. With your permission, may I write to her this very afternoon and ask her what she thinks of your offer? I say as the Queen then turned to more pressing matters.

"I did not get the chance to meet the new King when I was there but from what I hear, he is very weak and will not be long for this world I fear. His mother however, it would be wise not to anger her for she is the infamous Catherine de Medici, does this name sound familiar to your Majesty?
