Arrival of Anne of Cleves

I had arrived in England with Anne of Cleves who was meeting Henry VIII and I was to meet his daughter Mary.

I had a brief conversation with Mary and I had led her to where Anne was staying and I introduced her to Anne of Cleves.

The Lady Mary curtsied unto Anne of Cleves and smiled.

Anne of Cleves said unto Philip that she was pleased to meet the King's daughter, the Lady Mary and she smiled at the Lady Mary as well.

I had come to meet Anne of Cleves and Phillip of Bavaria had introduced my daughter to her already. I was announced as I arrived to meet her.

I smiled at Anne of Cleves then as the King was announced I dropped into a bow as he arrived.

Anne of Cleves dropped into a crutsey unto the King. Anne of Cleves said, 'Your Majesty'.

The Lady Mary also dropped into a curtsey when she saw her father, the King.

I smiled at Anne of Cleves.

"Lady Anne, may I welcome you to England. I see that you have met my daughter Mary.

She asked Philip of Bavaria what the King was saying

I looked at Anne then translated for her what the King had just said.

I looked towards Anne and it appeared that she dd not seem to understand what I was saying, which made me feel angry.

'I am pleased to have met your daughter, Your Majesty.'Anne of Cleves told Philip of Bavaria to tell the King.

Phillip told me what it was that Anne had said and I spoke to him.

"Does Lady Anne have difficulty with my language?

The Lady Anne did not understand the King. She asked Philip what the King said.

I looked at Anne of Cleves then translated for her what it was that the King had said about her not understanding his language.

The Lady Mary took this moment to approach the King. 'Your Majesty?' She did not think she should be here so she wanted her father, the King to dismiss her.

I noticed Mary come up to me and ask me a question.

"Yes Mary, what is it?

'Your Majesty, may I please be dismissed.' the Lady Mary said,

I looked towards Mary.

"Mary, of course you may go.

'Thank you, Your Majesty.'

Anne of Cleves asked Philip of Bavaria if the King was angry with her.

The Lady Mary curtsied unto both the King and Anne of Cleves and took her leave.

I smiled at Mary as she left then looked at Anne of Cleves. Despite her being German I was willing to not make her journey wasted. I invited her to join me for archery.

Anne of Cleves followed the King but told Philip of Bavaria to come along as well as she has need of his services.
