Mary Stuart's Bedchamber

I had come to see how my daughter was doing now that she was growing so fast and I entered the bedchamber at Holyrood to see her sitting on the floor with her governess.

Queen Mary of Scots was three years old and she brightened as she saw her mother come towards her. "Mama." the young Queen stated.

I hugged my daughter as I approached her.

"My darling daughter, you look beautiful today Mary.

"Thank you, Mama." young Queen Mary remarked to her mother, Marie de Guise.

"You are welcome Mary, what are you playing today? I ask her as I sat down next to her and her governess.

"I am playing with letter blocks that they made for me, Mama. You. too, look beautiful. I love you, Mama." Queen Mary smiled, brightly at her mother, Marie di Guise.

I smiled back at my daughter.

"I love you too Mary. What words can you spell for me?

"I can spell queen for I am a queen. What is that, Mama? Is it important to be a queen?" Queen Mary smiled, brightly. She was intelligent for her age. All she wanted was her mother. She loved it when her Mama visited. She did not have a father. Her father died three years ago when she was born so she was told.

I was so happy to see how my daughter was growing and how intelligent she was becoming.

"Mary, being a Queen is very important. You, as you say are Queen of Scotland, but at such a young age you have a Regent ruling until you become of age. I am your Regent. It is important to govern well as a Queen Mary. You will learn as you get older.

"I want to get older because I think I am too young to be a Queen." Queen Mary hath said, regally.

I smiled at my daughter.

"No one is ever too young to be a Queen, Mary. You will grow to be a strong ruler.

"Oh, I hope so, Mama. I want to make you proud of me. I will attend to my lessons and learn fast. You wll see. I will learn fast. You will not need to worry about me. Just take care of Scotland for me, Mama until I am big so I can rule her myself. i know you will for you loveth me and you lovteth Scotland. Did you loveth father, the late King, Mama?" Queen Mary said, which was a lot coming from a three year old. She just poured her heart out.
